Emirati Women’s Day 2026
Now the part that changes your planning. Emirati Women’s Day is not a single day this year. The national celebration opens on 28 August and stays open until 28 September, a full month, and it has never done that before. That is not our claim to make, so here is the source: Sheikha Fatima announced the extension in a letter reported by Khaleej Times on 15 July 2026, and Gulf News carries the same theme and dates.
She put it plainly: “as the horizon of ambition expands with you and through you, our celebration this year will not be limited to a single day.” She described the month as a window for action and for launching things, not just for saying thank you.
So the cultural side of the city has room to breathe, and exhibitions will still be running well into September. The restaurants are a different story. Nearly every venue built its offer around the old three-day weekend before anyone knew the month was coming, so most of what you will read about below expires on the 30th. Check each date before you make the drive.

What the day actually marks
Worth thirty seconds, because it gets mixed up with International Women’s Day more often than not.
On 28 August 1975, the General Women’s Union met for the first time, under Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. Forty years later she turned that anniversary into a national day for Emirati women, and the country has marked it every August since 2015.
One thing catches people out: it is not a day off. Offices open, schools open, government counters open. If you are organising something, you are organising it around an ordinary working Friday, which is exactly why almost everything below happens in the evening.
The theme is not decoration either. Ministries, universities and a good number of private companies build their programming around whatever line the General Women’s Union sets, so if you have anything to plan at work, knowing this year’s is genuinely useful.

The best free thing on the calendar, and the only one that is really about the day rather than around it. Two panels of women leading in government, healthcare and technology, at the Connect Conference Centre. Ask for a place in advance. Parking at Al Forsan 3 costs nothing.
The Women’s Museum at Bait Al Banat
Deira, by the Gold Souq
A 1950s house behind the Gold Souq, literally “the girls’ house”, holding art, letters and records of what Emirati women have built. It is small and it is quiet and it is the most on-the-nose thing you can do all week. Shut on Fridays, so make it the Saturday.
Etihad Museum
Jumeirah
Standing on the ground where the Union was signed in 1971. Wider in scope than the day itself, but there is something right about spending an afternoon at the founding of the country, four years before the union this date belongs to. Open on the Friday, unlike most museums.
Al Shindagha Museum
Al Shindagha, Dubai Creek
Twenty-odd restored houses strung along the creek, the biggest heritage museum in the country. Head for the perfume house and the crafts rooms, where the daily work of Emirati women is the whole exhibit rather than a footnote. Go late, once the creek has cooled off.

When is Emirati Women’s Day 2026?
Friday 28 August 2026. The date never moves, because it marks the anniversary of the General Women’s Union, founded on 28 August 1975. What is different in 2026 is that the national celebration carries on past the day itself and runs until 28 September.

No, though they get confused constantly. International Women’s Day is 8 March and belongs to the whole world. Emirati Women’s Day is 28 August and belongs to the UAE, marking the founding of the General Women’s Union in 1975.

Can I just walk in on Emirati Women’s Day in DIFC?
At Jospereno, yes. We are walk-in only, every day, so there is nothing to arrange beforehand and nothing to confirm. Come any time between 11:00 AM and 1:00 AM, bearing in mind the kitchen stops taking orders at 12:30 AM. Most of the other venues on this list will want your table arranged ahead, and the 28th is one of the busiest evenings of the month.
Where does the Jospereno dessert offer apply?
Eating in at Al Murooj Complex, Sheikh Zayed Road, DIFC, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 August 2026 only, while they last.
